Hey guys I'm finishing up my last build and getting all the used junk gathered up that was brought to me to use for the build and ran across this. Thought I would throw it up here as an example of what can go wrong working with stainless tubing...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:It's called SUGARING....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:To many amps or moving to slow?
Reply:I believe that that is a prime example of a definite no-no in a food grade application, terrific spot for bacteria to set up shop and cause all sorts of havoc to the health of those who are in receipt of the product that flowed through that line. As to the causes: lack of backing gas or backing flux, and since this is GTAW, I believe, there are a number of other factors that could have contributed to those results including those mentioned by motolife313. Best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:Definitely not food grade this is the kind of thing that can bite a company in the butt, look at what happened with blue bell. Scary thing about this particular piece is it was removed from service from some dairy plant no telling how long it was used or what kind of product was in the pipe. There are small operations all across America that try to save money by letting unqualified people make welds or repair cracks with this kind of result...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:You may be right our general manager owns a side business where he goes to dairy auctions and buys stuff then sends a crew out to bring stuff back that he can sell to the plant he runs... Conflict of interest? Either way this came from his collection of junk no telling where it came from before that.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reply:Can someone please describe "sugaring" ?  I know its from not shielding the ss weld with gas but, what is it?  Im guessing its from oxygen and hot stainless  The reason I ask is; Ive played with Ti and notice it gets a crust (sugar?) but I dont know if its sugar or not.
Reply:That was just plain lazy that close to a clamp it would be easy to polish with a die grinder.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:Even if it was polished with a grinder inside it would still not be sanitary there would be pitting below the inside surface line of the tubing... The only fix is to cut that bad weld out and do it the right way and throw that ferrel in the scrap trailer.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:That's scary... problems due to this kind of stuff can make lots of people sick.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
