I am about three weeks from pulling the trigger on my first TIG rig. I have narrowed the field to two Millers: The Syncrowave 250DX or the Dynasty 200DX. The Syncrowave has the edge in output capability, but I will have to run some new power out to the garage for the more power hungry machine, and it obviously isn't portable. Will the extra 110Amps make a difference? The Dynasty is an unknown to me. I have heard mostly praise for the Dynasty, but a few out there have had problems. I am supposed to find out Monday whether or not a demo machine will be made available to me by the local rep. I've used the older square wave type machine a little on some Aluminum, and was less than impressed with the quality of the arc and the width of the bead I was able to produce. I am looking forward to seeing whether or not variable frequency lives up to its billing. Supposed to make the AC arc behave more like DC- We'll see. I've started collecting the bits of my water cooled system, buying used #20 torch, etc. to save some money. Looking for a cooler yet, though.Whats a day without flippin' like a trout?
Reply:Well, I went ahead and ordered the Dynasty. I've been told if I don't like it, I can bring it back and trade out to something else, or refund. Couldn't get a demo, and they probably wont get the machine in for a little while, looking for the extra discount- so they will get a couple of orders together before ordering my machine. I have a Weldcraft Crafter series torch in hand now, looking for a water cooler and regulator. My next project for TIG class is to make up a cart for all this.Whats a day without flippin' like a trout?

Reply:I have both a 300DX and a Syncrowave 250. They both have their place and I am keeping the 250 Syncrowave for backup. I am not saying anything negative about the Dynasty but the inverter power supplies are very complex and the Syncrowaves are pretty bulletproof. We have a XMT304 inverter that had board issues and was repaired under warranty. Repairs on the inverters can be expensive. You will like your Dynasty. |
