Anybody happen to have pricing on vintage machines from the 40's, 50's, 60's or 70's. I think it would be cool compare the new selling price for some of the old equipment we have laying around. Been fooling around with a 1965 Weldanpower AC130. Just pulled it out and cleaned the carb, fired it right up and put the welding leads on. Before you know it I was burning some 6011 and 6010 just to see how it was. Not and impressive welder by today's standards but it's been sitting Idle and is 46 yrs. old,still able to do the job. Curious what some of the old SA 200's went for as well. I bought a new WP225 AC/DC with 16 HP Briggs in 1980 And I think I payed in the neighborhood of $1700 or $1800 dollars for it. Reply:In June 1980 a SA200 was $2,250. Just a couple months before they had been raised in price. Before the raise I think they were $1,750.00.I think in 1979 Lincoln advertised a complete overhaul/rebuild on your SA200 for $1,200.00.Around about 1975 I think a SA200 was only $1,200.00Back then used SA200 machines were many for around $500.00, in good condition.In 1976 I bought a 1958 SA200 for $500.00. Used it professionally for 2 years, and sold it for $500.00. (biggest mistake I ever made )In 2003 my new 200D was $7,800.00.In 2008 a 200D was $10,000.00In 2011 you could buy a new 200D for $12,500.00 and they were supposed to go up to $14,500.00 by late fall. Reply:1980 I was 17 maybe 18 , I guess I didn't do my homework or I would have bought the SA instead of the WP225. not much price difference if the 200 numbers are accurate. Youth!! I was working for CT General Welding, one of the bigger job shops around, we did rolling, breaking, shearing up to 3/4 inch. And all kinds of work, shop and field. I was making $4.50 hr right out of High School. After a time I got a truck with a Hobart and a helper and went off to the projects to weld all the dumpsters. When I asked for a quarter raise the owner said just can't do it right now, no money. Then he bought some acreage for his new home. The first time I ever learned FU but hole-- good bye. Had a job next day, for a wopping $5.75 just by changing employers. All seems funny now. I also think we don't keep as much of a % of our money that we used to due to all the taxes.
