Need lots help. What is the difference in the red face and the black face? What do you think about an SA-400 with a 4 Cyl diesel?I will be buying this for my sister to use on her ranch.
Reply:In some cases its the years. When Lincoln discontinued the short hood, (1956 or 57) they went to a 5-gear black face welder. In the early 1960s they started putting a red face plate on the same machine. I think 1968 was the last of the red face plate, then they went back to a black face plate, still same machine. Mid 1973 Lincoln started use aluminum in the generator, but still has a black face plate but a larger / longer face plate. If you're after a red face welder, really your after a 5-gear round barrel machine.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:If the 400 makes AC power, that would be a plus around a ranch, I would think. On the other hand, 400 is a little overkill.Bruce DeLaetHeavy Equipment Mechanic and Welder1948 SA-200 short hood1949 LincWelder 1801963 SA-200 red faceMiller S-32-P

Reply:Actually I do. I built my own home and did all the electrical. And I built my 200D conversion machine and did all the electrical on it also. How I got to do that was by calling my certified electrical inspector first and paying him to consult me on what I intended to do, then with his complete approval I did all the actual work myself. Once my part was done I again called him in to do the inspection and certification.I also did quite a bit of reading and studying the electric codes. Which didn't hurt a bit. Good luck man |
