Local shop has two 50lb boxes of 1/8" 6011 that they are willing to sell cheap, around $28 per box.  Not sure how long they have had them, but I believe they are Technoweld brand (if I remember correctly).  I've never run any 6011, and have pretty much stuck with 7018 when I have to burn stick electrodes.  I have a Lincoln Invertec v-250s DC machine and Square Wave 175 AC/DC, so can burn them either on AC or DC, just curious if they would be worth having around...
Reply:I'd buy them.Great for galvanized or rusty material......Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:6011 is basically 6010 except designed to work on AC. I've found that my inverter (a Lincoln 210MP) runs 6011 a whole lot better than 6010 for some reason
Reply:Thats less than 1/2 cost. BUY THEM!!!!!ChrisAuction Addict
Reply:How many pounds of 6011 would you burn in a year?  That may be 10 years worth of rod for a hobby guy.  Are you a full time welder or a hobby guy.  I just don't like excess sitting around  but that's just me.That is a good price if you can use them.Dan D.Manipulator Of Metal
Reply:A little research will show that 6011 is a high-penetration, fast-freeze rod that will burn through rust, paint, grease (fire hazard), and that sort of thing. There is a lot of information and also photos here on WW to help you become fully informed. It is great for use on the farm to really penetrate into two chunks of metal. Then cover the 6011 with 7018 to add strength and beauty. Sometimes I use a stringer of 6011 to basically clean the weld area in difficult places to prepare for a layer of 7018.6011 can be made to look pretty in the hands of an expert but otherwise it comes out butt-ugly and needs a cover pass to avoid embarrassment. However, with 100 pounds of the stuff to practice with, you ought to be a master when it is gone!I use a maximum of about 5 pounds a year of both 1/8" and 3/32" combined. But I don't really do much welding compared to a pro.6011 is quite useful for tacking and filling holes. It also lights/burns on lower amps than 7018...... 90 A (6011) vs. 130 A (7018) in 1/8" rod size on my machine. 6011 is a cinch to restart as well.Last edited by GWD; 03-31-2015 at 10:37 PM.Lincoln AC buzzboxLincoln AC/DC buzzboxHobart 125EZ (110V flux-core)Everlast PA200 (stick)Everlast PA300 (stick)Everlast PP70 (plasma cutter)O/A outfitSeveral Metabo, Bosch, HF grinders set up differentlyMisc tools
Reply:6011 was my go to rod for about ten years. Burned hundreds of pounds of it and built lots of things. It basically is just a 6010 that will run on AC. It is probably the most versatile rod there is. You can use it on any machine AC or DC and it welds dirty metal fine and works in any position or travel direction.I use 6010 now because all my machines are DC and I like the way it burns but nothing at all wrong with 6011.
Reply:+ 1 on getting the 6011.Besides being very useful rod, it will help you get better.  Fast freeze rods show every movement that you make. Which is not a bad thing.I disagree about the welds being ugly. Because it freezes the way it does you can make it look really nice by careful rod manipulation. Been using it for more than 30 years.I remember when i first started welding.  I saw a master's work using 6011. I was so impressed that I then had a goal to shoot for and knew what it could look like.6011 has it's place as mentioned above. Great tool to have.Versatile stuff. It certainly has its uses.
Reply:I used lots on my AC Thunderbolt. Great all purpose AC rod.

Reply:Picked up the box today, now just have to find a project to use them on.  It will probably take me two lifetimes to burn them all up, but couldn't pass on the deal.
