I have a new miller 211 on the way. Im wanting to get a gas bottle but having a hard time deciding on what would be best. I plan on building a offroad cart for this welder since i will have jobs on random spots around the property sometimes. I was thinking about getting a 80cf bottle priced $267 filled and out the door or two 55cf bottles about the same price. I was wondering whats the times on these bottles? My buddy has a 300 and 125. The 300 is just to much of a pain to get filled so he hasnt used it in years. But the 125 isnt that portable ether. It is on the back of the cart riding around on concrete but not to carry or push a cart off road.
Reply:An 80, 125, 300 CF bottle will last depending on regulator flow setting...Just do the math....I do most my mig stuff with reg set at 10-15 CFM.....If you need offroad rig, then I take it you will be welding outdoors....if welding mig outdoors, leave gas bottle at home and load a spool of fluxcore and tote just your chipping hmmer and wire brush, because you usually can't mig with gas in any amount of wind.If you decide to carry welder and large bottle along, keep them separate. Use machine carry handle and forget cart....put large bottle on cheap harbor freight dolly with 10" hard rubber wheels and you good to go.

Reply:i am going with the 80 cf. it is portable enough around the shop and the cost is reasonable.VictorPraxairAir LiquideMillerLincoln Electric
Reply:A 125 cf tank is not very portable? Are you transporting on a scooter or skateboard? I've put a 336 tank in my wife's trunk in a 08 toyota corolla. A 80 tank is a horrible price to fill compared to a 336. I would not recommend a 80 to anyone unless they weld once a year.
Reply:im in panama city fl
Reply:I think a 336 is around 280$ filled where I go. A 80cf bottle cost about 40$ to fill and I pay 65$ to fill a 336. If you do the math there is a huge cost savings and if you weld alot you will be getting that 80cf bottle filled about under once a week

Reply:125 is perfect. It' only taller than an 80, same diameter.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Also keep in mind that you can store/use C25 laying down. That lowers the center of gravity and makes things more stable. If I'm using the small 40 cf cylinder with my tig, I'll often simply lay the cylinder down so I don't accidentally knock it over. However I do what others have suggested with any of my larger cylinders and just use a hand truck separate from the machine to move them. If you want you can use quick disconnects on the gas line to make it easier to move.Keep ij mind when you go to exchange cylinders the larger the cylinder, the lower per CF the gas cost. That's because part of your price is made up of various "fees" as well as the gas cost. Hazmat fees, transport charges, test fees and so on. You pay that for each cylinder no matter the size.Personally I wouldn't recommend a really large 300 cf cylinder for anyone not welding full time. In most cases you would ned to rent/lease vs own the cylinder, so you are paying whether you are welding or not. Also it's heavy, bulk and difficult to move easily. 80-150 cf cylinders make good home hobby cylinders. Enough gas for a reasonable length of time welding, but still something you can own and easily move and cost per CF isn't unreasonable..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:I buy the biggest bottles I can maneuver around. The welding shop is about an hour roundtrip for me to go to and I try to minimize the times I go there. I think mine are 244's? They are about as big as my out of shape self wants to lift in the truck bed.
Reply:I called all my local gas suppliers and we only have two airgas and nexgas. both are around $300 for a filled 80cf. they wont sell a bottle bigger then 80cf only rent. I was going to buy a 125cf but i guess that isnt going to happen. I looked around for a used bottle but no luck yet. they only exchange so there is no need to buy a brand new bottle. unless i find one at a real good deal. |
