I'm in the process of setting up my newly acquired beast of a welder to do some TIG with a high frequency unit to stabilize the arc. I'm wondering if anyone has experience welding aluminum with sine wave and 50/50 balance, and what I should expect. Everything I've read so far is on square wave. Thanks.
Reply:My machine is sine wave 50/50 balance.I'm guessing your set-up will not have a foot control? If not, I recommend staying in the 1/8" and up range for aluminum.I've welded down to 1/16" with a similar setup, using steel as a backer, it was not very much fun.Wait for the arc to stabilize, have the amps high enough to puddle in 3 seconds or less, move out.Without a foot control, you will have to continually increase your travel speed the farther along you are into the weld, eventually snap out of the puddle and let it coolUse an 8" x 8" square 1/8" (minimum size) to practice running beads - cool it every other bead so you can keep welding.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday. |
