Shearing treadplate

I ordered a sheet of 1/8" treadplate last week, and was going to have the vendor shear it to size so I could just install when it arrived. They advertise a 1/2" x 12' capacity for shearing, but told me when I ordered that they do not shear treadplate. I have sheared it in the past on our shear at work, and never noticed a problem. The salesman at the vendor could not answer why they don't, so I was hoping somebody on here could help me out with this.

Reply:Its because the lifted "tread" can chip the blade. I have actually seen it on a near new big shear.

Reply:I figured it had something to do with possible blade chipping and the shear operator being nit picky. I was able to plasma cut with no problems, just added a little bit of time to the job. As much as I would like to change steel suppliers, my options are very limited at my location, ecspecially when I factor in their delivery service. Thanks for the responses, I was wanting to make sure that I was not breaking any shearing rules.

Reply:I have seen shear blades chipped from it. Sure you might be able to get away with it maybe forever. But when I have 20 other cutting options I wouldn't risk my shear blades on it.
