My TIG torch has seen better days, and could use a replacement. I was just going to buy another torch with a longer hose and call it good, but then I thought, could I go water cooled?I acquired this Miller water cooler some time ago. I was told it works, but I am not even sure how to hook it up to power to test it (only just not have I looked at it for more than a few seconds). So assuming I can figure out if it turns on and works, can I adapt this to a torch for my Precision Tig 225? I would assume if I can mount it to the welder I can make it work, but I really know nothing about water cooled torches and what it takes. So any help is much appreciated. Reply:Should be no problem. Just get the gas through dinse connector for the water cooled torch, plug the cooler into the 115 volt on the back of the welder and mount it somehow. Did the same with my pt225 and a dynaflux cooler.
Reply:Just drop by your favorite LWS and ask them for and Dinze adapter for a water cooled torch that get its gas through the Dinze connector. They should have it on the shelf or be able to get it real quick. They make a whole series of adapters that work with most types of welders.
Reply:Can I order the parts online? The closest welding shop with reasonable prices is about 65 miles one way. And with a big diesel truck I would rather not.Mounting it I think would be pretty easy, the PT225 has some bolts on the side that I have hung wire racks off of. I should be able to build something simple off of that.I do not really see a place to connect the cooler to power so far, being my first issue. So basically get one of these:http://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.co...nnector/DetailThen any water cooled torch I want? What is a good brand, all I have used is the stock Lincoln air cooled. And do I need to order a new gas lens kit for the water cooled torch?Lincoln PowerMIG 215XTLincoln Precision TIG 225Hypertherm 300
Reply:K1622-4 is the lincoln part number for the dinse connector, and it is available online. You should have two 115 volt outlets on the back of the pt225 that the water cooler should simply plug into. The advantage of this is that you can leave the cooler on full time, and it will turn on and off automatically with the welder. This will prevent forgetting to turn the cooler on, and cooking your torch cables. If for some reason your welder does not have 115 volt aux power, you can plug it into any wall outlet. All of the water connections will take place on the dinse connector. As far as torches, I highly recommend CK (www.ckworldwide.com), they are top quality. I also like the lincoln magnum torches. You do not need the gas lense, but they do have some advantages. I don't use a gas lense generally.
Reply:My Lincoln does have the auxiliary plugs on the back, I like the idea of leaving the cooler on at all times and using the welder as a master switch. The problem I am seeing, is I cannot find a plug or cable on the cooler itself. I have not taken the cover off, it may just be missing the cord. And I was wanting to know if the gas lens I already have for my PT17 Lincoln torch will fit a new water cooled torch, or if I would have to buy a new gas lens kit to fit a water cooled torch. Depending on what I am doing, I like the option of having a gas lens.Lincoln PowerMIG 215XTLincoln Precision TIG 225Hypertherm 300

Reply:Gotchya, it seemed pretty firm in there, was not willing to tug on it until I pulled the cover off.Seems like this should actually be pretty simple.Lincoln PowerMIG 215XTLincoln Precision TIG 225Hypertherm 300
