I am looking to build a back porch awning about 12'x20'. I want to use metal roof and was trying to use c channel for support. There is a sketch below. If the structure will rest on a house can I make the angles at the top and just angle the channel down to the outside corners? What is the span length and spacing on channel? No snow here in Louisiana and way north of the coast so no hurricanes either. Attached ImagesLast edited by laxray; 05-14-2015 at 01:29 PM.Reason: extra pictures
Reply:Depends on the profile of your sheet metal. Some high rib designs will span 5-6'. I don't know what loads you have to design to for high winds etc. Uplift will be as much of a factor as downward load in hurricane areas. I would just copy what the local carport companies do, although many of them under design the uplift load.
Reply:I would just use 3" square tubing and purlins. Why channel?68' redface64' redface78' blackfaceSquarewave 200Trailblazer 302Miller 12vsMillermatic 211Maxstar 150325 Xtreme Victor cut master 52Betenbender shear& brakeScotchman iron workerWellsaw
