I am new to mig welding did alot of stick years ago and now trying mig in the last month or two.I was wondering how to clean the liner on my machine. And what is the life span of the tip and nozzle.I have used only 3/4 of an 8" spool so far and probably don't need to clean the liner yet but would like to know how.Nobody moves nobody gets hurt(safety first)millematic passportmiller 375 plasmacutter
Reply:I have a MM175. I nip the end of wire, roll it back on spool, remove tip and diconnect lead from machine. Then blow it out w/ compressed air while flexing it.Seems to work OK for mine. Reply:Be like Mike. Short of replacing it because of damage(kinks), there is not a lot of maint. on liners.Your nozzle can last for years and your tip will last a long time too if you dont stick it too much and bugger up the end so you cant get the wire out. Every once in a while run a tip cleaner thru it to keep the crud from the wire from building up too much and you should be ok for a long time.
Reply:Yup yup yup good notions. There is a product Wire Kleener I beleive. Anyway its a two part. First part is a felt pad you put on the wire between the drive rolls and your spool. Next is the fluid. Pour some fluid on your pad everyday you use your machine. Will lubericate and clean your wire as it passes through. Good stuff. Make sure you dont forget to use the solution though. Tis worse to use the felt and no fluid than nthing at allIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Another wire lube available at Airgas is called "Ferro-Slick" It works.
Reply:Thanks Tek, ill need to check that one out tooIF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:A suggestion: try to NOT go cheap on tips . when the tip (outlet hole) gets egged out and the wire wobbles the least bit, it's time to replace it . A bad(worn) tip causes all kinds of misery. It ain't worth putting up with that .
Reply:That's a great tip Redneck!! I keep getting surface rust on the wire on the spool in my MIG, that stuff looks like it works on rust too. Thanks!Sure, I can fix it... I got a welder!!! |
