I'll do an un-boxing post and first cut, if I get to it before the kids in the shop destroy it. lol http://www.hypertherm.com/en/Product...owermax105.jspOrdered from my local Airgas. I have a huge air compressor 15 HP 180 psig and some ridiculousness cfm rate.  Should be in the end of the month. Thanks Jim for the advise.
Reply:Whoa!!! That's awesome FB. Just curious, what is the average thickness you will be cutting? I also like to have available capacity, and that thing is powerful."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:2" severence! Id love to take that for a spin!  What's its intended purpose?Thermal Arc 210 FabricatorHypertherm PM 45and lots of other tools the wife doesn't know about
Reply:Thanks for buying the Hypertherm....I'm jealous that you have 3 phase power! Now....order up a gouging nozzle and shield.....you will have an absolute blast once your see the power that 105 has for plasma arc gouging.Jim Colt Originally Posted by Fat BastardI'll do an un-boxing post and first cut, if I get to it before the kids in the shop destroy it. lol http://www.hypertherm.com/en/Product...owermax105.jspOrdered from my local Airgas. Reply:Jim I have the gouging nozzles and shields on hand just waiting on the machine.I am guessing the average cut thickness on steel will be 3/4" I do a fair bit of work on 1-1/12".The impetus for this purchase now is a bunch of 3/16" 304L SS and 1/2" 6061 Aluminum. So not wanting to buy now and leave some power back at the store and considering the price difference between the 85 and the 105 it was an easy choice to make. As the say go big or go home.  Now to find the CNC table that fits the shop. I think I'll be looking at a 4'x4' that is expandable to 5'x12'
Reply:Well the machine got here (thanks Airgas) exactly 3 days before they said it would and 1 day before I had to put it to work. I did get some pics just out of the box. and I got to cut some 1 1/2" steel plate. WOW! Clean smooth fast. Put it to work cutting 3/8" Aluminum plate. Don't have a shear so a cutting we shall go. To date it has cut approximately 3000 inches of 3/8" aluminum, 1500 inches of 1/2" aluminum, 84 inches of 1 1/2" A572 steel. So not even broken in, it still has that new machine smell. Dropped in the 85 am bits and cranked it over. Cuts with slightly less than a 1/8" kerf at many many inches per minute. I have not had the time to actually time it. Being new and only one a very few in the state the 105 amp consumable parts are not stocked well here. We do get regular dog teams (FedEx) in the winter so parts are only a few days a way. So far the shield (the outer most consumable) is the only part to show significant deterioration and that is due to pierce cuts on 1/2" aluminum. Drag cutting is great. the standoff built into the shield is by far the best system I have ever encountered. I started using plasma systems in the late 70's. I have used all brands up through the late 1990's then have not kept in touch with the systems or improvements to the technology. In my never humble opinion Hypertherm nailed it. Power variability, torch, consumable life, ease of use, all spot on.
Reply:So I thought I would through this out. I find one of the best uses for this machine is the gouging setting. Not to say the cutting aint great as it it.I find the guys using the gouging quite often. It makes quick neat work of back gouging. On the con side I find running the lower amp fitting is pointless as they don't last. Might be a setting thing not sure. Don't work with much steel less than 3/4" so we just keep it loaded with the 105 kit and vaporize steel.
Reply:If you cannot make the lower amp consumables last....then you may be doing something wrong. I use the FineCut consumables and the 45 amp shielded consumables most often....I usually see about 1000 to 1600 starts (usually over 2000 feet of cut) with the 45 amp and around 600 starts with the FineCut consumables. The lower amp consumables last longer than the 85 and 105 amp in all lab tests.....however one might argue that if you considered the amount of steel (kerf) removed!Jim Colt Originally Posted by Fat BastardSo I thought I would through this out.
