I hit up a yard sale today, and the lawn gods smiled on me. I got the belt sander which to my surprise is is perfect working order, aside from the worn belt and disk. I also managed to snag some cast iron and SS rods.All for $50.I can't wait to test out that 2/3hp on some knives, or on my fingers but who needs 10 anyway?
Reply:Mmmmm are you talking about sharpening knives or grinding the bevels during the making of a knife? I don't think 2/3hp is going to cut it for heavy grinding... but will come handy for sharpening.I have a 2cv single-phase 220 motor and if I try hard enough... I can stall it. Just something to keep in mind.Anyhow, good find!Mikel

Reply:I have a little belt/disc sander like that at home, and regardless what anyone says it will get you through any job and takes up minimal space. I just pick mine up and move it when need be. At work we have some animal machines that could be outright dangerous, but these little units are great since you can actually feather the motor with some pressure and not have your work trying to get away from you. 50grt belts and discs will give you the least resistance and make shorter work on eating up some steel. Dedicate a pair of welding gloves for the sander and always wear them, it will avoid the inevitable finger shortener. Nice score! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
