A lot of the art or projects I make end up being made from scrap metal. I have lurked here for a while before joining and "borrowed" a few ideas. I thought it would be nice to return that favor and post items I have made so others can see them and borrow as well. Reply:The stick man pushing the rock up the bookend is very creative. --While a sea serpent is a cute idea.... I don't know that burying rims half way in the lawn would work by me. I'd probably trip over them and break something walking around in the yard after dark. I'm thinking you must live where it doesn't snow or if it does.... you don't get any accumulations worth mentioning. By me, we can have drifts that are so high we can't see out our front windows. Combine that with a dog that can't be let out unless he's on a leash since he likes to supplement his diet with birds and squirrels and stray cats and I'm pretty sure that if I didn't break my leg running into them after dark during the warmer months..... I'd for sure run into any humps walking that dog in snow. --I hope you post some of your bell photos and your YouTube in that other thread on wind chimes.MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:These aluminum sculptures were made entirely from weld metal, with no grinding. The filler rod used was given to me from an electrician who ripped some aluminum electrical cable out of a building. I cut and removed the plastic wire sheathing, and the inner wires were 1/8" rods. Perfect for these!!The first one is a tropical hut and a palm tree. The second one is a Mexican guy sleeping up against a cactus, while his donkey waits for him to wake up... Rich
Reply:This one is also weld metal only. It was made with the same aluminum electrical wire as my other ones. I looked at my own hand, welded a little, looked at my hand some more, then welded some more, etc. Rich
Reply:That hand is awesome! 1/4 mile of wire in that one?
Reply:Steelsurgeon - Your work is great. Is that regular aluminum electrical wire? Do you have any idea what alloy it might be? I have a decent amount of it that is pretty heavy gauge but did not realize it could also be used as filler.Millermatic 252 MIGMiller Dynasty 200DX TIGMiller Spectrum 625 PlasmaAltas 12x36 Metal LatheBridgeport Milling Machinewww.psacustomcreations.comOriginally Posted by CraboThat hand is awesome! 1/4 mile of wire in that one?

Reply:Originally Posted by steelsurgeonThanks guys! That hand has a lot of wire in it. It rather large...larger than my own hand. It has a lot of hours in it, as well.It is common electrical wire. I'm not sure what alloy it is, but because of that, I figured that it wouldn't be good for welding anything where the proper alloy mattered. So, it was used for these sculptures. I'll bet it is a good grade of soft wire for it's conductivity. Here's some good reading...http://www.aluminum.org/resources/el...oks/electricalRich
Reply:Heres the modern alloy.AA-8000 series aluminum alloy conductors have properties that are significantly different from the old AA-1350 aluminum conductors. To confirm your cable has these conductors, look for the designation “AA-8176” on Southwire’s cable print legend. For other aluminum building wire products, make sure there is an “AA-8…” followed by three other digits.Heres the linkhttp://www.southwire.com/commercial/...ireHistory.htm

Reply:InsaneRide, Thanks for the compliment and info on the wire. I was supposed to attend an arts and crafts show in Williamsburg, VA today. With the 100% chance of rain and the fact my daughters boyfriend decided to drive from Michigan to Virginia last night to ask me for permission to propose to her, I thought it would be a good day to stay home. I ended up making these bells out of one of the full size CO2 tanks I picked up. Once I stripped all the old paint off the tank I found out it had been made in May 1944.Last edited by psacustomcreations; 09-26-2015 at 05:40 PM.Millermatic 252 MIGMiller Dynasty 200DX TIGMiller Spectrum 625 PlasmaAltas 12x36 Metal LatheBridgeport Milling Machinewww.psacustomcreations.com

Reply:Here is the completed humidor I made out of an old scuba tank. The customer will provide the cedar that goes inside as well as the moisture sensor. I was going to use a moisture sensor with a probe. I planned to drill out the dip tube, run the probe wire through the burst disc area of the valve and then place the display on the tank. That way you can see the humidity level without opening the humidor. They decided just use a humidity sensor that sits inside the humidor. They won't know the humidity level until they open the tank. Reply:I posted some of this in the "Show what you welded today" thread but am going to post a few more picsEven though it is early in the season I had a friend/co-worker ask me to fix the snow plow for his ATV. He had abused the heck out of it and this is after it had been straightened so I can get dimensions. He gave me some legs for a trampoline and asked if I could use those and make it work. He had a minimal/almost zero budget and said he would pay me with jars of honey from his beehives as well as some maybe some deer. The legs and edge of the blade were completely destroyed as well as the runners/pads or whatever they are called.
