Reply:I should add that my example pic doesn't show the hex nut flats that end will have on the Tweco the Stickmeister is selling. If you have a lathe you could very quickly turn the larger 5/6 Tweco end into a 4 if wanted.
Reply:OK, pulled out the #4 on the PM300 and it's the same end you have pictured, farmall. Now, looking at stickman's gun, the cotter retaining pin will fit, the power lug is correct, the control connection is correct, the only question is about the gas fitting. Now, I'm guessing I can simply run that clear hose straight to the gas solenoid instead of passing gas through the lug, and presto, I'm in business. Make sense? BTW, Merry Christmas and thanks for the help. Reply:You can run the clear hose straight to the 'noid.Some general Tweco backend conversion/adaptation-fu which may help a variety of folks:The black objects are the female part of Tweco gun adapters. They sell 'em to retrofit a large number of machines (I get them cheap off Ebay) but as far as I've noticed they don't do "Tweco to Tweco" though there is no reason they can't with a suitable thread on the adapter backend which has a SMALLER diameter thread than the standard GUN backends. Black block at 12:00 position is Tweco 5/6 female with a Miller backend partially inserted. (This would adapt large Tweco gun to Miller machine/feeder.) Top right is a #4 female.Long gun backend (Tweco "Lincoln" style) at 11:00 position which looks like Sticky's gun with hose barb fits Tweco 5/6 adapter female orifice which is of course larger (backend diameter = ~.744" vs ~.620" on my examples) than the Tweco 4/Lincoln 4 gun backends which are second and third up from the bottom right. There is enough meat to turn it into a Tweco4/Lincoln male. Band clamp in the middle is a Tweco part. You can shorten damaged Tweco MIG guns but no other clamp fits under the shell. The two gun backends at 8:30 and 9:00 are Tweco for Miller.The Miller Tweco adapter backend on bottom right has plenty of meat (~.680" diameter ) would also be fine to turn into a Tweco 4/Lincoln to adapt Tweco 6 guns for those wanting to run an adapter. I'll eventually do that but not until I get a 5/6 gun that needs it since I don't yet own a lathe.In the case of Stickys gun, I'd check price on the correct backend part number by finding it in the gun manual. You can call Tweco tech support if in doubt. If the price is right then you can just slide out the liner and swap backends. I hold the gun in my left hand with a box wrench on the backend nut then slap that wrench with another and the backends come off with little fuss. They don't need a lot of torque. They don't wear out so save 'em when you have a bad gun. Taking advantage of "less-popular-than-Tweco 4" MIG gun backends to get deals works for me but I don't mind a little fiddling. I think but haven't confirmed that this Tweco part would fit, but I'd call Tweco with Stickys gun part number first:http://www.bakersgas.com/NAS358-2035-2174.htmlShort version:You could either mod the Lincoln backend on a lathe (a few minutes work since you'd just be shrinking the diameter and making one groove for the retention screw and not have to drill for gas flow since it has the hose barb), buy a #4 backend, or get a #4 female adapter off Ebay with a large Miller "adapter" backend and turn that down to #4 diameter, add hose barb or turn for O-rings then drill for gas flow which would let you use 5/6 Tweco guns untouched and continue to save money if you buy more of same in the future.
