Ok gang here ya go..I did not start this thread but made it into a stickey and the same rules go as in the other threads....WHAT GOES ON IN HERE STAYS IN HERE.OK?Easy enough.Have at it....zap!The following debates are between three remarkable men, all experts in their field of study.  I can guarantee you nothing, but I am willing to bet that after watching both these debates, you will walk away wiser and more informed.    For the believer, you will likely be strengthened in your faith.  For the hard line non-believer, you will likely remain just the way you are.  For those who have not decided, some will fall away completely, but others will see with a light they never knew existed, for they will see God with reason and intelligence. What happens from there depends entirely on the measure of faith God is willing to grant to each of us.A few rules for this thread:1. Before you comment, watch both debates from beginning to end.2. Please do not attack the views you appose with disrespectful comments, you only make yourself look bad when you do.  Instead, post your own views with evidence you believe will add to any discussions that may arise from these debates we are about to watch.3. If you want to post your own video of a debate you believe makes one side look bad, start your own thread and post it there.4. If all you want to do is say this kind of thing does not belong here, then kindly click on another thread and move on, no one is twisting your arm to view this thread.Enjoy,GarChristopher Hitchens & John Lennox Debate - "Is God Great."John Lennox Vs. Reply:Here is the answer to your title question.God is not in any way based on science.   Therefore science cannot bury or disapprove God's existence in the eyes of believers.   I already posted this explanation.  The Lennox/Dawkings debate was pointless.  No basis of common standard on which to discuss the topics.  Religion is based on Faith otherwise known as Superstition.    The only difference between religion and mythology is time.   Given enough time all religions become mythology.Last edited by soutthpaw; 10-02-2014 at 09:48 AM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:And how does this relate to the SA 200 being the greatest invention of all time? Seriously,  I come here for help with welding not life. Reply:I believe this was created ash the request of myself and others because there has been an increase in political/religious/racial threads/ comments inappropriately scattered around WW.  Politics have a sticky thread in of topic and the only location political discussions are supposed to be posted.   Hopefully the same happens here with religion.   There is also a gripe thread where one can pi$$ and moan till their heart's content.   Thank you Gar for obliging with a dedicated off topic thread.   Remember that personal attacks and threats are against the terms of use for this forum.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Is there a summarized version of that debate ? something like 2-3 minutes max?  if anyone think about making me listen to that for 3 hours they can have faith but my answer remains NO.
Reply:Let me start off by saying that I am a very religous man, I believe in God and I know that he exists. I'm very involved with our church as well, I love being involved. Now with that stated, I will also say that this welding website doesnt need to be involved with a discussion on Religion,... this sites about all things welding, plenty of other places to argue religion. I refuse to argue, I know what I believe and I'm comfortable with it as well. There is plenty of stuff to argue about in welding,...think I will go start a thread about welding up a trailer with a 110 mig from HF, or maybe a roll cage out of exhaust tubing, something constructive. Reply:Even though I see it a hundred times a day I still find it most unusual to hear someone say that they believe in a God but decide that the God has no place here.I don't see what a believer or a disbeliever really basis their answer on yet somehow I lean to disbelief but I don't know.  Perhaps its the people talking so silly about god. It is like listening to Charlie Browns teacher.
Reply:What is meant by a higher level of understanding? Would that be believing as you believe you believe? Or would that also be someone on the fence being persuaded that he does not exist?
Reply:I am a believer, my life history has taught me there is good and evil, God and devil. Science can prove without a doubt, completely, that it is impossible for a bumble bee to fly. Science is mans thought up knowledge. I was an unbeliever, wondered if, could there be, all the fazes, now i'm here and no going back. We are granted free will, so enjoy your life your way and your beliefs, just keep an open mind, you could be wrong. God is GREAT! He has proved it to me without a doubt. What ya got to lose, try it, just talk to him. Ok i'm done.Thermal Arc 210 - Tweco 211I - Cutmaster 52

Reply:Here is my take everyone will know for sure when called home. I believe in God and have my reasons and experiences that reinforce that belief. As to the doubters, I find it most interesting when life deals them a knock out punch. They somehow get the message and start praying, asking for help.  Whatever it takes for the message to get thru is a good day for that individual.Denying the freedom of prayer, the Lords prayer, sure has done WONDERS for the schools and your kids, has it not?  When I was in school teaches taught the 3Rs too the children, today teachers molest them. Really nice what an advanced society we find ourselves living in, sounds like progress to me.Magazines have issues, everything else has problems

Reply:Originally Posted by GarI hear ya brother, not many folks tolerate the type of religious wingnut you describ.  But this thread is for the purpose of respectfully discussing science, God, and religion and how they do not discredit one another.  Would such a discussion as this also make you run as fast as you can in the opposite direction? If it would, then why are you reading and posting in such a thread?  There is another type of wingnut that wants any mention of God to be removed from any and all conversations, from any and all public places, and from any and all governments.  Unfortunately, when such godless people eventually do become leaders of nations and kingdoms, they kill millions of people and set themselves up as gods to be worshiped by the people they let live.             The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights. Are you apposed to the free exercise of religion, or the freedom of speech?  "And He (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:15-16Exercising one's religion does not always involve speaking, but does involve walking as Christ walked.  With that said, it does not exclude proclaiming truth, and Christ is THE truth (His own words).  Unfortunately, its far too easy for some to proclaim it rather than live it, and this as made many people bitter towards religion.  I get that, I really do."Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6That statement right there makes the Christian faith exclusive and allows for no other religion as a way to God, or heaven.  All religions are not the same, and other religions do not usher people into heaven, they may make people feel good while they are on earth, but they do not solve the problem of dealing with God's justice.  If anyone has a gripe with that, don't blame me, I didn't make it up.  And since its not up to me who goes to heaven, we should all be grateful that God chose to justify those who believe in Christ through the atoning death of His one and ONLY son.  Amen?  Gar

Reply:Jesus, God and the Holy Ghost are all immortal and are one in the same being.   Guess what. Jesus therefore cannot die. So no one died on that cross.  They just left one form and became another.   So that basic tenet of Christianity is false.     It is impossible for Jesus to die for anyone's sins else God is this a mortal being..  Plus you should be worshipping Satan.  If he is the one responsible for eternally punishing all the evil doers and sinners in the world, does that not make him the good guy?BTW I'm not debating anything here, just pointing out a couple of the hundreds of logical fallacies and contradictions in the bibleLast edited by soutthpaw; 10-04-2014 at 11:05 AM.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
