I’m trying to replace a piston and need to remove the engine. I have the brushes and the armature bolt removed. Anyone have experience with pulling the engine?
Reply:The rotor mates up to the engine crank with a tapered fit.A typical method to separate the two is to use the rotor bolt by screwing it back into the crank but leave a small gap (+/- 1/8") between the underside of the bolt head and end of rotor shaft.  Then, using a decent size hammer, give the bolt head one or more sharp wacks to pop the rotor loose from the crank.  I usually use a chunk of 2"x2" aluminum to drive against the bolt head to prevent damaging it.Another method is to use a section of round stock with the end ground to a round shape to insert down the center of the rotor shaft and fit up against the end of the crankshaft.  The round stock must be a larger diameter than the center bolt so as not to damage the female threads in the end of the crank.  The round stock needs to be long enough to allow striking the end with sharp blows from a hammer.And then there are those applications that the end ID of the rotor shaft is threaded to accept a jack bolt to force against a similar piece of round bar described above but only long enough to allow the jack bolt to contact the end to force the rotor from the crank taper.  Some rotor ID jack bolt threads are right hand and some are left hand.Last edited by duaneb55; 10 Hours Ago at 05:00 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110
