Reply:Argon is the third most plentiful element in our atmosphere (not including water vapor), does not burn or react with other elements and easily dissipates back into the atmosphere where it can be extracted again so I'd have to say any "shortage", if there is one, is purely man made - like so many others - to drive costs up.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110

Reply:There is a shortage in that argon is only 1% of atmospheric air so you have to separate a LOT of air into components to get argon and with manufacturing going like it is demand for argon is very high. What this does is add volatility and that likely added a surcharge/demand charge to cover ever changing cost.
Reply:If do not have shortage it hard to rise price. So look for a real big price hike soon and shortage is over.Dave

Reply:Of the three major gasses in the atmosphere, Nitrogen, Oxygen and Argon, Argon freezes first at the highest temperature, so it is relatively easy to purify.  You can just throw the nitrogen and oxygen away if you don’t need them.
Reply:At work they are installing another nitrogen plant right outside of my shop... makes it great for cooling down my shop (at work).I haven't built anything I can't throw away.  Perfection is the journey.    Mac

Reply:I need to introduce myself to the new owners of my LWS anyway, so I'll probably pop in and ask if they've seen any shortages.Check out my bench vise website:  http://mivise.comMiller Syncrowave 250DXMillermatic 350P with XR AlumaProMiller Regency 200 with 22A feeder and Spoolmatic 3Hobart Champion EliteEverlast PowerTig 210EXT
