I am wiring a 650R for a Lincoln AC/DC using 6/2. On the receptacle, there is an x y and g label. I know G is for ground but does it matter which wire (white and black) go in the X and Y spot? It would seem that it doesnt matter, Im just double checking. Thank you

Reply:Thank you! Always better to have a second set of eyes on it to double check!
Reply:& to clarify, G is for ground. IT IS NOT FOR NEUTRAL (OR CENTER TAP). If from a sub panel ground & neutral should be separated. If from a SERVICE panel, they MAY be separated, but bonded. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:Very true.Since it is Romex and the ground is bare I was pretty sure you knew it went in with other bare and/or green ones in the panel.

It is not a current carrying conductor. To the equipment ground bar of panel in either case. If your MAIN breaker is in the same panel then then ground bar and the neutral are at same potential and could even be sharing on the same bar. In that case if it has them separated in their own bars put it in with the grounds if all sharing pick a hole and land it.Last edited by danielplace; 4 Weeks Ago at 01:37 PM. |
