The last thing to be done was to make a place to hang the rake wheels when the machine is folded for road transport. In order to bring the arms fully vertical, one side has to have the rakes removed, otherwise the rakes wouldn't allow both arms to meet in the middle.

Clean up the inside seam on some pipe.

Make a plug to fit inside the pipe.

Slather on some peanut butter.

Pipe is attached to a bracket, which is welded to the machine

I wasn't going to incline the pipe at first, but thought it might be a good idea. But, it made for extra length I hadn't counted on. The pipe is 11" long................the rakes, if stored on a level pipe would have taken up 10"..........but with the incline, they all fit in a smaller space. Maybe I can hang a lunch box on the extra bit of pipe

It's a fairly impressive machine once it's all together, and everything works. At least now, I can get out the driveway, and it'll be safe on the highway. It'll be nice not to have to cut the brush next to the highway to get a wide machine out, like I've done for over 2 decades. I always had to use a wider gate in the pasture to get out(it opens on to the right of way with no road/driveway), now I can just tool on out the driveway.

On the right side of the machine, I welded the bolts to the hubs in order to easily remove/install the rakes without having to fight a bolt and nut. I was not sure what the hubs were made of, so I started out using 7018, which ran strange, but welded. Thinking this might be cast iron I was dealing with, I scrounged up some high nickel rods out of the shop, and used them on one hub.................WHAT A DISASTER. No penetration, no fusion, no way no how. I finally figured I'm dealing with semi steel(cast iron with steel thrown into the melt), so the 7018 is the go to rod for this stuff. I'll redo that one hub tomorrow before I park this thing out in the yard...........PREFERABLY WHERE I DON'T HAVE TO LOOK AT IT AGAIN TILL I NEED IT.
Reply:Nice. All you gotta do now is park it under cover so mother nature doesn't destroy all your hard work. Or a tarp?

Reply:maybe on the back you can hang a big bright orange triangle. then at least you will be seen and if not then the cops that scrape the idiot off your rake can say we he was warned, not your fault

Reply:Yes... with HID's the field lights will blind oncoming traffic so they can't see the machine. So...........uh........where's the accolades from the post modern, neo classical, retro, steampunk, 3D motion arts, crowd?????????????????

3000yrs from now, they'll be diggin' up stuff from our civilization..................wanna bet this fine piece will draw more study from PHD's, than some weird cabalistic free form art cluster ferk????????? And!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a mobile!!!!!!!!! It moves in the breeze, and makes noise!!!!!!!!

It appeals to ALL the senses

This lil' piece of industrial art will be the subject of a graduate thesis in a future millennium. The Artist(ain't just reserved for weird singers) has no time to rest................it's on to the next project.........a modification of a Dayton wheel dolly to use as an axle caddy. 1144 hit the mailbox today, and it's waiting for a home.

A good steady burning marker light on the centerline side would be good, and if operators would actually use road lights instead of being lit up like a starship that would be good too. I could go on and on about this....
