I need ideas for a mobile bench grinder, dont want that dust in the garage.

Reply:This is what I built for mine, it portable and has enough weight to hold it steady for grinding.  I use one bag of concrete mix in the wheel.  Using the handle I tip it on the wheel and roll it around where I want to work.  I build a similar one for a belt grinder I had.

Reply:Whether mobile or not these cast iron tractor wheel weights are ideal for bases. Each segment is 24” diameter, 80 pounds and with square holes to accommodate 5/8” carriage bolts.

Reply:It sounds like doing all work outside. I would build a bench for welding and fits your grinderWelding does produce dust too. You build a bench to fit your garage and have the welder under table and set of drawers under the bench .Then just roll out garage and do your work.Dave FYI use large wheels so easy to move around.  6 to 8" wheels is easy to move.

Reply:I'm just a DIY,er, my garage is small so rust removal, weld cleanup I do outside I'm also an Ex - smoker so lungs damaged already. Greetings from Ireland 👍

Reply:What I did for one of my grinders is a 3-1/2" square aluminum railing post bolted to a truck flywheel. The grinder is bolted a a piece of plywood that is screwed to a 4X4 wood block that I cut down to fit inside the aluminum railing. I then drilled through the aluminum post and wood block so I can pin it in place. You can do something like that and have an axle attached to the flywheel (base) so you can tip the stand back with the grinder attached, roll it around on those wheels (like a hand truck), and then tip it back onto its base and use it Sent from my Lincoln Buzzbox using Tapatalk

Here’s one example….

Reply:Great idea with the hand truck.👍
Reply:You find there is a big difference from garage shop working around cars and a shop. My welding aera is a carport. By backing out my pickup I have shop. I put my table and welder on wheels. Just store the equipment in side and simply run out when welding. My machine shop was in garage until my wife got new car now it a building in backyard. It works out better it is fully insulated for heating and cooling.  Dave

Reply:If you want it quick and portable, what if instead of making the base heavy enough to be stable, you made something like a receiver tube on your outside wall. Various saws, grinders etc. could be on light wheeled stands to make it easy to wheel them in and out, but clip into the receiver tube ( or possibly 2 tubes)  for stability. The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

Reply:I don't worry about them up here... You'd squish them every time you used the grinder...The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
Reply:Truth be told they were never used for grinders.  It secured the Hossfeld bender, a work table with vise and various platforms when working on larger equipment that wouldn’t fit in the shop. The crossbars were tie downs and anchor points for pulling and straightening.:I've thought about using 2" reciever tubes to mount stuff in the shop. Problem I see with it is the slop that they usually have. Off the top of my head, an expanding wedge kinda arrangement would be pretty cool.Rough doodle of what I'm talking about. Hard to draw on the cellphone... Insert the tool into the reciever mounted to the bench, then tighten a drawbar that pulls a wedge into the tube the tool is mounted to. A saw cut in that tube allows it to expand and lock into the reciever tube. No wiggle room!

Reply:Maybe it doesn't need to be a receiver.... how about just a big eyebolt into the building's plate? A short J bolt (or quicker yet, something like a bear trap clamp) could tighten your light portable table to the base of the concrete footing... unless Black Widows like to swing from eyebolts...The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes
