Reply:Why would a guy want that scrap? Only way it would come home with me is if it was free? This is a hard way to get to portable welding. I know guys tried this over and over and if scrap prices rise enough they could sell them all for 1 good one and wouldnt have to borrow mine. I have seen about a dozen questions,,, is this a good welder, is that a good one,,,, they are all junk but the one question not asked with some important info is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, what is a good welder for me? I got to go back and mention the non veg,,, he started like that posting pics of every machine he could find,,, then he get it a little and LISTENED and got a couple really good machines that are RIGHT for him.www.urkafarms.com

Reply:Scrap price only. Parts for that engine are made of unobtanium. Since they aren't showing the lead end, I'm guessing 200 amp AC only.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:Like I said other post buying a older welder generator you need to know how to do the repair. I had the 213 witch was a older model it was great welder.Igloos like find a welder to buy.Are you a good stick welder?Dave

Reply:I can understand wanting an engine drive, I get that, for some guys the old ones are ok. I saw a low hour bobber for sale the other day, wasnt super cheap but was nice, had been used on occasion and had 200 ft of lead on a nice little trailer a guy wouldnt have to be embarrassed about at 1500. Good enough deal for someone needed it, at a grand I might have, they called me but sheet,,,, I have 4 engine drives already and rarely use 1.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:If I had the time would be looking for what I want vs what I could find. For most general guys a bobber with the Kohler engine on it. Linc makes them too, not sure about all the models. If I was doiung this over and not headed to a welding business I would have a hard time getting away from the new inverter stuff, new in box, economical. While it seems a guy has a long list ahead it gets short fast and you will be standing around looking for something to weld next with 15 hrs on it.www.urkafarms.com

Reply:It sounds like you have the skill set.It looks like newer vers of 213. It was simple welder but welded great . The engine parts can be found at a Tractor salvage yard.Dave

I little weekend work over a month or so to get it working is about all I am interested in.

If I get good enough at it I may offer this as a service for some jobs, but honestly I will probably sub out any welding I come across on jobs.I am a utility contractor. I am focusing my business on water and sewer work for now. I may get into other areas for which my license qualifies.Unfortunately we don't do any (or much) oil pipeline work in North Carolina or the surrounding States.
Reply:I think that Hobart is DC looking at the welding generator but not sure. There's probably info on the net. It's maybe a $350 welder if it runs and welds exceptionally and is for sure DC. Have to check if engine parts are still available. If it had cables would add a little to the price.
Reply:Some guys love those old Wisconsin engines, but I'm not one of them. Had a 1 cyl. on an auger and a 4cyl on an old baler when I was a kid. My experience is that they will run forever, but they will never run right. You couldn't pay me enough to work with one every day. Even in Canadian funds, I'm not seeing $1,000 worth of welder in that pic.The harder you fall, the higher you bounce...250 amp Miller DialArc AC/DC StickF-225 amp Forney AC Stick230 amp Sears AC StickLincoln 180C MIGVictor Medalist 350 O/ACut 50 PlasmaLes

It had a V-4 Wisconsin to power the hydraulic system to lift the deck at each end and steer the rear to get around corners or maneuver in tight spots. That thing was a pos, we were loading a 992 cat loader once and it wouldn't run long enough to lift the trailer. I called the office and told them I was unloading right there and they could send another trailer. No way was I going to get caught in an intersection or on a railroad crossing not being able to lift up to get over the tracks. After that yelling match they replaced it with a very nice Duetz 3 cylinder diesel and used a slightly smaller pump that ran things better without overloading the engine.
Reply:Lots of them worked a good long time, then when they need much service seems they never worked right again.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:It may be worth something for a collector. It is pretty old and doesn't look to be in too bad of condition. |
