Reply:That should work. Preheat and then covering after welding to slow down the cooling.
Reply:How hard is the lever?Dave

Reply:I have the part now, its not hard at all, a file will easily score it. I also did a quick arc strike and that files easy tooRichardWest coast of Florida
Reply:Then oods are it is cast iron .They make a good rod for cast iron for TIG and Torch.  Bevel both parts for welding or you will need hump/reinforcement weld.I would per heat both parts and use the cast iron rod. If I had I use brazing rod because I have a lot on hand but the rod has better color match to cast iron. I am suprised non of tig welders are on this thread. I do not call myself a tig welder but is very close to Torch witch I do.Dave

Reply:Looks like stamped and formed steel to me. 312 should work great either way.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR"

Reply:If it is formed steel and was originally bent it is possible micro fractures / stress from that process is why it broke.A full penetration weld should work and remove those stresses in the process. Just curious, why 312 ss for filler?Ernie F.
