First Project: A Retracting Torus Rotisserie

So I need to make this rotisserie attachment for my Kamado Joe grill.Looks straightforward. Except I want to make it “retractable”.So that single, large piece you see in the video is now made up of smaller sections that nest into a larger piece when collapsed and lock into the larger piece when extending. So the same mechanism as a telescope or this pole on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ITTAHO-Telesc...f_B085HDNNSQ/?My questions1) Given that the grill pieces have to be hollow so that they nest into themselves, what kind of metal should I use, and how thick, so that it has enough tension to maintain structural integrity? Regular steel with a heat treat after getting it into shape?2) what’s the correct shape? Originally I believe it should be the same piece as you see in the video, except that you should use a second piece the curves and envelops into the first. Reply:I only skipped through the video and without sound, so please forgive me if what I have to say is bogus.Seems like this project is complicated by the fact that the lid is hinged.  Hence the requirement for the angled piece.  Maybe figure out some way to modify the hinge so it is a quick detach/attach, making the lid removable.  If the lid is removable, the sheet metal construction would be much simpler.Tim
