So, I had the opportunity to mess with one today. I was running some beads and kept dialing the thickness down on the screen, just experimenting. 1/2 in material, and when I got it down to 5/16 on the screen I started having trouble with the machine, just stopping, no more weld. I have NO experience with these electronic ones, is that normal? Welded just fine with the setting at 3/8 and up, I know this is probably just a dumb question, and I should just be a normal person and Not dial it down like that, but Inquiring minds..... I have used some of the older ones, don't remember the model, but they were GREAT.Being poor is the most expensive thing there is
Reply:I have never had that happen on mine, but I am not sure I have ever tried to weld that far out of scope either. I was some quarter inch plate fillets, vertical up and had it turned down to like the 1/8th inch settings. No issues. One thing I will say is that the autoset feature and the door chart on that machine gives settings for spray transfer for any thickness 1/4 inch or more. Could be that you had the wrong gas maybe? How was the machine set up? What size wire, what gas, etc.?I will say one other thing about this machine. The door chart settings and autoset setting use wildly different wire feed speeds than my MM252 used to use for the same thickness of metal to be welded.Miller Multimatic 255 |
