I have been an accomplished gas, stick and mig self taught welder for 50 yrs. The last few years I have had to wear reading glasses and my welds have suffered. I just can't see my work properly. I have good equipment and top shelf helmet. If anybody out there has a tip I could try it would be much appreciated or my welding days might be over.
Reply:Most welding hood manufacturers sell "cheater lenses" for their hoods, magnifying lenses that attach behind the faceplate.Depending on how old your helmet is, you might check out the new generation of auto dark stuff. They have advanced tremendously in the last couple of years.

Reply:53 here. I wear 1.5 reading glasses and use a 1.5 cheater. A little annoying, as you have to remove everything when not welding. Like no more flip up with a grinding shield, as I can't wear the glasses for things that are a couple of feet away...so I swap helmet for grinding shield. But I like going slower, anyhow.  For the welding, it works like a champ.Panasonic YC-300BP2Panasonic YC-200BL3Suzukid Arcway 180Lincoln Idealarc R3R-400Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Everlast Power i-MIG 230iEverlast PowerArc 300ST...and other assorted garbage
