P220G OHV which is a Robin Subaru EH64, have been having trouble starting with back fire through carb. Starts on cold morning had a back fire out the muffler. Engine has 399 hrs, so last year changed spark plugs and adjusted valves it would run but did not sound right. After the backfire out muffler started researching what could be the problem. Found EH64 parts manual, Robin Subaru has changed ignition coils twice since mine was built. Ordered the latest coil 2- #263-78203-01, this coil has the stop diode built in,so you need wire harness #263-73126-h1 and 2- #x65-91000-10 terminal and 2-#065-50000-51 boot.These parts took care of hard start and back fire. With the old coils after running for a few minutes removed spark plugs and one was cold and one was hot. Parts manual also recommend using NGK BPR4EY spark plugs instead of the NGK BP6ES . Yea that is 399 hrs in ten years, this engine has always been hard starting . Always thought it was because of the vacuum fuel pump since it sits a long time without use. The other day found a newer manual which has a # for a different vacuum pump with hard start trouble.Now she runs great, hope this helps some body.

Reply:Lately when shutting off the engine it does not shut of and gargles for a few seconds, this parts manual says about checking the relay. Well its bad, test terminal 30 and 87.Napa relay # AR462 fixed it.Last edited by guajilloweld03; 17 Hours Ago at 10:43 AM. |
