I have a Klutch 52" jump shear with the blade rusty and out of alignment. How do I remove and sharpen the bladed then reset it? I came to metal work late in life so there is a lot I don't know and user manuals are not very useful this days unless you already know what you are doing. I use it to cut copper sheet.
Reply:I don’t know about taking your shear apart but sharpening the blade is probably best done in a machine shop, unless you have a big surface grinder and fixturing to hold the blade.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:check your blades. they might be reversible. some have 2 or 4 sides. call clutch for resharpening, or tennsmith or other manufacturer. they usually offer that service.not sure what you machine is a copy of.....find a similar looking american made machine and get the parts/instruction manual as it's probably very similar.https://www.northerntool.com/images/...uals/49677.pdf this from northern tools! but looks like a tennsmith copy.Last edited by filetobeef; 4 Weeks Ago at 10:44 PM.

Reply:Thanks! The manual says you can reverse it, though the directions are not clear, to me at least. I'm going to try a rust clean-up and adjustment first and say a prayer that that works.
Reply:Just use a fine grit sanding block to relieve the rust, then on most shears, you bolt the bottom blade in place then shim the top blade to perfect alignment..003 vs .005 vs .008 gaps mean a lot on a cutting edge |
