How to tell if helmet lens is going bad? Occasional flash....

My Jackson BH3 helmet has started to occasionally flash me.  It's only about 5 years old and I made sure it's fully charged.  How do you tell if the lens is going bad?  Maybe my settings is wrong.  I reread the manual, and I actually can't figure out what direction these "arrow" means.  Which direction makes it more sensitive or longer delay?

Reply:The way I would interpret those Arrows is clockwise is increasing that particular setting.   More sensitivity would make the auto darkening happen at a much lower level of light and the delay is I believe how long it stays dark for after the arc stops.Easy way to test your helmet is put a fresh battery in and see if it works like it's supposed to with the sensitivity turned up all the way and delay turned down all the way.

Reply:Try new batteries before you give up. Even if it has solar cells on it, those only increase the battery life, they don't make the battery "forever." Unless you are looking for an excuse to upgrade, then go for it!-DaveXMT304 with: 22A Feeder, or HF251 Hi Freq DC TIG air cooled
Reply:I had to carefully clean the little "eyes" that sense the arc. They had gotten fogged up with smoke even though they are protected by the outer lens. You probably already checked that but figured it can't hurt to mention it. Even a q tip was too big for mine. Reply:Recently my Antra AH6-260 helmet bought in 2016 started flashing me momentarily as the arc starts. Replacing the batteries (for the first time) fixed it.It seems that the battery powers the circuit for a moment before the 'solar panel' puts out enough power.* Amico MIG-130A Flux, Dual Voltage.
