I do home repairs, and hobby welding at home with my Hobart Handler 140, and my beads and penetration are very good. Now my issue.....I do repairs at work welding small items such as mud flap hangers, brackets and such. My welds are intermittent porous, and lousy beads. It will leave great beads and penetration, then turn to garbage. Everything is prepped and cleaned properly. I am using a Lincoln mig welder at work
Reply:THANK YOU for your service!I assume since you said mig that you're using gas and solid wire, if so is the polarity correct(DC+)also known as reverse, if using flux core then it should be DC- or straight polarity, other factors could be gas coverage, contact tip to work distance, wire stick-out and gun angle, GMAW will let you know by the nice sizzle when it's correct. Make sure your connections are tight and you have a good work cable(ground) connection. I found a loose Dinse cable connector on my 3 in1 that caused wierd issues.Last edited by CAVEMANN; 4 Hours Ago at 11:10 PM.NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINELET'S GO BRANDON!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
