Hello all! I recently bought a dual voltage welder  for some basic hobby welding and currently run it on 110v. I now would like to run it on 220v to weld thicker material and have come across an issue. My issue is that the welder has a standardized 110 male plug and came with a NEMA 6-50 power adapter for 220v which is not compatible with my garage receptacle (NEMA 14-50). The only possible solution that I’ve been able to come up with, other than installing 6-50 receptacle in my garage, is to buy a plug in power adapter that converts 6-50 to 14-50. I shared this information with tech support and they mentioned it may work but could give the welder issues. The welder is a YesWelder 205DS and the power adapter plug that I found online is ACWORKS 6-50/14-50 Welder Adapter #WD1450650. Reply:If you wire it correctly I don't see a problem.  Like in this picture, but of course going from a 6-50R to a 14-50P (pic shows the reverse).  You just don't use the neutral of the 14-50.  That said, be careful with the adapter they provided.  You don't want to plug in any 120v device.  Or you could skip their adapter and just go from a 14-50 plug to a 120v socket like they did.  But please mark it 240V - welder only.

Reply:Should work fine to plug in the 240 volt extension into to avoid plugging 115 volt appliances into and not fry something. If the Yeswelder says no send it back for a refund. Your welder plug extension without the 115 plug connected should read voltage on both blades.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR"

Reply:The difference between a 14-50 and 6-50 is the the 14-50 has a neutral wire.6-50 has a ground and two hot wires. You do not need the neutral wire for your welder. Adapting 14-50 to a 6-50 is perfectly fine. Other way around may not be.
Reply:Do not make any 240 to 120  adapters. The machine is not  designed to do this without the adapter.   The 14-50 to 6-50 is fine.www.urkafarms.com
