I recently purchased a Miller Multimatic 220 and need some advice on an economical, compact Flowmeters for the TIG and MIG applications. The welder came with 2 regulators but I would prefer to use flowmeters for both.I'm presently modifying a HF welding cart to accommodate the 220 and set it up for 2 "Q" tanks. I would like to keep the regulators/flowmeters inboard as much as possible since the tank area will be wider than the cart. BTW, I was attracted to this particular cart because of the drawers and a compartment to keep my helmet somewhat protected. My research has me zeroed in on 3 choices: (1) Harris 601-AR-580 PN3100575, (2) Harris 351-60-AR-580 PN3100331, and (3) Victor GRF-400-580. Has anyone had any experience with any one of these? I realize that these are historically American brands but many are now made offshore. Any quality issues?
Reply:No experience with any of those, but the Harris are imported from Poland. I didn't see a country of origin on the Victor, but their best seem to be made in Mexico now, and the less expensive models are from other countries.I've tried a lot of different flow meters in the past few years and for TIG I'll take a Harris 355-2 over everything else....made in the U.S. and only 20PSI output so it has the softest puff of gas when you initiate the arc. Next I put the Victor 2425 and 1425 which are made in Mexico and 25PSI output, so still pretty soft puff on startup. For MIG I don't mind the extra puff you get with the less expensive meters, which are usually calibrated at 50PSI output.Check out my bench vise website: http://mivise.comMiller Syncrowave 250DXMillermatic 350P with XR AlumaProMiller Regency 200 with 22A feeder and Spoolmatic 3Hobart Champion EliteEverlast PowerTig 210EXT |
