So, I've had this Lincoln Pro-cut 80 for a few years now and never had any problems. I was cutting something and think I had it set a bit high and the arc wound up melting a bit of the drag cup. Had a few replacement tips so, put them in and now I can't cut with a new drag cup. I can get an arc started with contact but it wanders really badly. And, somehow I think the arc is brighter than before but that could be my imagination. I checked the voltages, grounds, run the tests for the boards and everything looks good. All leds are operating normally. I'm going a bit nuts here and just can't figure this out. New tips & electrode - tried it with genuine Lincoln parts too. Attached is a pic of a new tip after about 20 seconds of attempted cutting. Anyone know what I'm missing???Cheers,Jesse

Reply:I don't know that machine so will only ask general questions (more initial details are always useful). I agree with wanting more pictures, and/or a copy of the instructions/parts breakdown, to know details of how that system works. What source of air/gas does it use, and is it dry? Is the pressure correct at the gun? What does a new tip look like and is the internal electrode long enough to establish the arc through the hole at the tip end, or might it be arcing to the side instead? Was anything else damaged besides the drag cup? The whole tip looks badly overheated but the focus is too low to see it clearly. Does it have one, or two circuits (or sources) of gas, perhaps one for the plasma, the other just for cooling? |
