Im looking at 3 older TIG setups for my restoration shop, Im kinda leaning towards one option but Id like some more experienced welders to chime in. I do mostly auto restoration and light fabrication. I would like the option to do aluminum, all machines are high frequency, but only one has AC balance. Is that kinda of a deal breaker right off the start? All machines are complete with pedals, and torches.Miller Syncrowave 300Miller Dialarc 250 HF (this one comes with cooler)Lincoln Idealarc 250/250Theyre all around the $500 range, eventually Ill get something way nicer, but thats the budget for the next year or so.Rich GrantSinful Customs, Detroit MISnap On MM140slSnap On YA212IND (with DC TIG)1947 P&H M-295 ACMiller SidekickPOW CON 300STSpitznagel DF-505
Reply:If they're all around the same price, I'd go with the Sync, no question. It'll have AC balance, a "squarewave" wave form on AC, and it should have a cooler (I can't imagine a 300A class machine not having a cooler, anyway, but I suppose it's possible.) If it lacks a cooler, I'd add one.Good luck in your search.
Reply:Hey Rich,As Kelvin mentioned, the Sync 300 is the only one of the three that has AC balance and a square wave output which puts it ahead of the other two for almost everybody. A cooler was optional on the 300, but is a huge plus and nearly mandatory for aluminum unless you're doing really thin stuff. If you go with the Sync and need a cooler I have a good used Miller Coolmate 4 that I've considered listing for sale...I work in Detroit so I could even probably bring it by.Check out my bench vise website: http://mivise.comMiller Syncrowave 250DXMillermatic 350P with XR AlumaProMiller Regency 200 with 22A feeder and Spoolmatic 3Hobart Champion EliteEverlast PowerTig 210EXT
Reply:You do not want the Dialarc even with the cooler, it would not be best out of these 3 machines especially for thinner material. Synco 300 would also be my choiceRichardWest coast of Florida
Reply:This is actually my first choice of the 3, message me and we can discuss the cooler, I’d be interested.Rich GrantSinful Customs, Detroit MISnap On MM140slSnap On YA212IND (with DC TIG)1947 P&H M-295 ACMiller SidekickPOW CON 300STSpitznagel DF-505 |
