Finally got to try some of this today on a useless old cast iron pot.One ear for the wire bail was gone. Shaped up a new ear from some 1/4" CR with a full V on the bottom. Ground the remainder of the cast ear down flat and blasted it clean. Did what they said: no preheat, DC-, argon and welded it all around. The bead was a little funky but not bad. Appears to work pretty well. The ear didn't snap off when I used a snap punch to drill the hole. How strong is it?, don't know. That's all I know about it

Reply:Glad to see it worked for you. I've tried it a couple of times with zero luck and I've done quite a bit (for a hobbyist) of TIG welding cast iron and ductile iron. I may try it again, but it was cracking on my repeatedly. I went back to my old method of using Inconel rod and was able to get the job done...may just be I've got that process down better.Check out my bench vise website: http://mivise.comMiller Syncrowave 250DXMillermatic 350P with XR AlumaProMiller Regency 200 with 22A feeder and Spoolmatic 3Hobart Champion EliteEverlast PowerTig 210EXT
