I had a lincoln weld and power. it did DC / AC. So I never used this 225 buzzbox at all. I now have a Ranger DC only, I dont ever have use for AC. Should i sell the buzzbox or install a rectifier bridge in it so i can do DC / AC and keep it?its just it takes up space in the shop.
Reply:I don't see the point in keeping it unless it's your only backup welder.I assume you have more than just the Ranger to weld with, though? Surely you have a few more shop machines?Even as a mobile welder you might pick up better business by having more modern machines... a DC inverter or two would probably be a good idea for when you can run off mains...Even a little lunchbox welder would be more practical than an AC225. Something you can carry in one hand and run an 1/8" rod on all day long.If someone turned up to our site with an 225 I'd wonder what their business plan was.Last edited by Munkul; 1 Day Ago at 08:00 AM.Murphy's Golden Rule: Whoever has the gold, makes the rules.
Reply:Sell it and buy a dc buzzer if you need one but the idea of a lunchbox is even better. Mine has near put my engine drive out of biz, so much simple work now done 120V, used to need engine every time we got a little way from the shop.www.urkafarms.com
Reply:Yeah I actually have too many welders that's why i am thinking of selling that one. I just bought it from a guy when i was also buying a drill press.I do most everything with the engine drive when away from the shop. What do you think the 225 ac is worth? its in nearly brand new condition.
Reply:In my area they seem to sell for $200 to $400 depending on condition, and accessories. You might want to consider throwing in an old helmet and maybe some old 6013 in to seal the deal, selling to a beginner. There are some people that want these for limited use because they're very reliable (is just a transformer and a switch). AC/DC go for $400-$500 it seems, lots to be found on craigslist, marketplace. There are lots of "more portable" welders available now, better off letting someone else have that one, and get a small multipurpose welder. Reply:I always use AC for tacking,, and other things that require multiple short welds. It's a PITA to restrike DC 7018. The AC version of the rod lights up easily. Also like AC when arc blow becomes unmanageable. I bought my engine drive because it was AC capable. I really like having the AC function on the 250GXT.I guess it just depends on how you're used to welding, and what consumables you tend to use.
Reply:I listed it on CL in my area but no takers for $200, that's what im asking cause that's what i paid.Im in Northern VT
Reply:No takers in less than a day? Give it a week or two! lolMurphy's Golden Rule: Whoever has the gold, makes the rules.
