I used to Hardsuface in the shipyard and on Heavy Equipment with Stoody 31. Anyone have any suggestions for a good wire for Hardsurfacing in Dirt applications ? Like Excavator or Loader Buckets ? Also looking at getting an Engine Drive Unit and trying to figure out amperage requirements. My only experience was with Lincoln Diesel units - around 1988 ? Thanks so much !
Reply:I have used stoody 101 for dirt and sand. I runs well in my mig and in the suitcase on the engine drive. https://www.esab.ca/ca/en/products/f...-g-101hc-o.cfmLincolin Power Wave 450, Lincoln Powermig 255, Lincoln Pro Mig 140, Lincoln Squarewave Tig 275, Miller Big 40 G(with Hobart Hefty suitcase), Thermal Arc 95S and Esab PCM875 in an already full machine shop.

Reply:I use stick and the last rods I got were from Shark. I've used Stodys in the past but like Eutectic the best. None of them are cheap. I looked into wire for the MIG once but it was really pricey... Reply:@propanehotrod - Thank you for the info - that's a great start. I'll check with my local rep - had no idea that Esab owns Stoody
