I just started welding again . All of a sudden I find myself with 3 angle grinders when I am welding. In the old days we were lucky to have one. I am wondering if any of you clever guys have figured out a caddy to keep them in while working and possibly storage. Maybe a power strip so they could all be plugged in? How to deal with cords?Any Ideas?
Reply:Absolutely!..And it is a great idea to do exactly THAT!I got 10 hanging along edge of my fab table that wear every type wheel and brush...look closely behind them and you will see a red box that contains 6 120V outlets.BUT!, I sincerely advise you to install all weld bench electrical totally electrically isolated from metal of table. The first time you forget to connect welding ground, welder arc ground will travel back thru 120V wall circuit and most likely smoke it. My outlet gang box is mounted to 3/4" plywood, and the wood mounted to table. Please note it only takes two thin and narrow pieces of scrap steel to hang grinders to where you can easily see what wheel is on each and simply lift it off rack.

Reply:Someone here posted something similar in the past, but they hung the grinders by the guards/wheels vs the side handles like wornout did. Reply:TomA, if your bench is the site of most work, and the grinders all need to be there (?) I can understand a rack/frame under the top to hold them.I usually work on boats so I need the tool set to be with me all over the shop.  So:  https://images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=...KRBC3T.jpg&f=1  I use an inexpensive roll around cart, I metal screwed a heavy duty metal cased plug strip to the end, and I line the top tray with the grinders motors hanging by the guard or the disk.  Not all my grinders have the guards still on them.Using the tools with NO order means the cords get tangled into a mess. But all I do is unplug them all at lunch or coffee, and flip the cords straight and re-plug them all.  If I'm not using one or another tool I'll just wrap it up, lay it on the lower shelf out of the way.The mobility issue is why I use a cart- does take up space but it can move the entire inventory of grinder/sanders/die-grinders around with not time lost, and an easy to store format where all the draping cords can be piled when the cart is put away.  I have a box of the most commonly used centering hardware and disks in the top tray and the rest of the tray is a catch all for squares, measuring tools, markers, scribes, and some cutting tools too.  This is very convenient for building metal boats. Not a solution for all bench-work situations, but one that has been pain free from my projects.  Just another 2cents.Cheers,Kevin MorinKenai, AK
Reply:I stole the type rack I use from Keith Fenner on you tube.I first tried to hang them off thin steel flat bar using guards or wheels...That was problematic as not all hung well....Hanging by the handle allowed me lots more room plus exposed the wheels for quick selection.....On wire cup brushes, I usually don't use the guard, but always do otherwise.  Hanging them by the handle allows guards to remain in any position.
Reply:The frame of my work table is 10" I-beam so I just added a piece of angle across one end to hold my grinders and clamps. Terrible picture where table was in background, but you get the idea. I have an extension cord hanging from the rafters over my table with a 3-out plug on it so I can plug in whatever I need at the time.

I've found on my circular saws, I either cut the cords close to the saw and use an extension cord so the plug doesn't get caught on sheet goods, or like on my trim saw, I've installed 10' long cords so the plug never reaches the sheet. My tools with the short cords store a lot nicer than the few I have with the extra long cords.
Reply:Thanks guys. A lot of good ideas here. I am leaning towards some kind of all terrain cart.I picture most of my work being portable. Umm .....  I don't have a bench yet.
Reply:Here's some of mine.    I kinda like wornoutoldwelder's  design as it easily accepts different wheel diameters.

Reply:Did he pass away? I'm sorry I'm thinking of how I want to make mine I have a car that I made to get material and tools off the welding table. The lip of the angle iron is thick and shallow so some grinders fall of. I may just weld pipe to the cart and have the handle go into the pipe. I dont want to take handle on and off for storage. The method pictured  is nice and compact
