A friend was cleaning out an old barn and ran across this.  Any ideas on what this was used for?  The slots are different sizes and the ends are tapered like to help inserting pieces.  The tapered ends show some light mushrooming from hitting something or being struck themselves.  Spark test showed it to be steel, not cast iron.  The stamp on the handle end must be a manufacturer's mark...any ideas on that as well?  Looks like an "I", an "H" and a "C".  It's about 8 inches long and 4 inches max width.  The number stamped on the handle is "Q-5027".

Reply:I think the logo may be for International Harvester Corporation. Just googled the # and it's a chain breaker. For the type chain used on lots of farm eqpt that the links slid into each other.Last edited by mla2ofus; 7 Hours Ago at 08:46 PM.Ol' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Chain breaker for flat link chain. Commonly used on manure spreaders, elevators and chopper boxes.
Reply:I didn't know such a tool existed. Sure done my share of working with square link chain.
