I didn't know you could weld aluminum with a diesel welder and a wire feeder. I always thought you have to have a spool gun then I found this video can anyone explain this to me.
Reply:I suspect his gun is pulling the wire. Otherwise it would be very difficult to only feed from the suitcase.
Reply:We installed literally tons of aluminum bus bar every week at the last BIG place I worked. The copper bars were simply bolted, but the aluminum had to be welded, 1/4 X 4 inch, up to 5/8 X 8 inch bars.Sometimes, as many as 4 of the big bars would be stacked, the joints all had to be welded.I had purchased several different welding machines to try to help the welders doing the aluminum welding.(These welds were inside large electrical cabinets)There was so little room, a push-pull gun could not fit inside the cabinet. The welders always reverted back to the same method,,They used a regular Tweco push only gun, BUT, they had 2 assistants that kept the weld lead as straight as possible. The Tweco gun would fit in the cabinet, the welds came out beautiful,,The fancy weld machines sat in the corner and collected dust,,,They push-only welded aluminum every day,, for decades.
