I am in the process of swapping out my Power Wave C300 for a Power Wave S350 with a boom mounted Power Feed 84. Where I want to place the power source I will need a longer control cable. I went to purchase one but could not bring myself to pay $500 for a cable. Any good sources for aftermarket cables I should be checking? Looks like the 14 pin is more common than the 5 pin I need. The 5 pin Amphenol connectors are easy enough to get to make one from, but the cable Lincoln is using is a bit more difficult to source. It is a 5 wire SO cable with 2 -12 awg, 2 - 20 awg, and 1 - 18 awg conductor. I have not been able to find the multi gauge cable so I was thinking of just going straight 12 awg or 14 awg 5 wire SO. I assume the 12 awg is what powers the feeder drive motor, I have not bothered opening anything up too see though. I know I am overthinking a damn cable and just need to make or buy one and be done with it but curious what others have done? Mike
Reply:There is more to the cable than just different sizes of wire. At least one pair is twisted. This control cable ha two for the 42volts that power the feeder.the twisted pair for digital data communication and the 5th one is voltage feed back from the drive housing. the only off the shelf cable you might be able to use would need to contain 3 twisted pairs (6 wires) all the same size as the largest in the Lincoln cable. you might have to buy 100 or 500 foot spool. Then but a set of plugs or cut them off the shorter cable.Contact profax/ Lenco they might sell the cable you need. They sell a lot of control cables for Miller and Lincoln welders. At a lot lower prices.
