HH 210 MVP Gun Length Question

The 210 MVP comes with the 10' gun, but It would be nice to have a few more feet to work with.Can you run a 12' or 15' gun on the 210 MVP?GreggHobart Handler 210 MVPHobart Stickmate 210i
Reply:Hobart's recommendation would be no on running a longer gun lead. I suspect though that the drive would function fine with a 12' lead. I wouldn't waste my money on a 15' lead though. Reply:For a hundred bucks plus I would move the machine 2 feet when I needed it or make a 10 foot extension cord although the new htp is probably better than the stock one, I'm not a mig pro but the miller/hobart guns are a little crappy that I've used
Reply:Keep the .023 in mind. The .023 is hard enough to push more than ten feet anyway. I've done it 15 feet with the dual drive my lincoln has and it's pretty iffy. Reply:I’ve had the little Hobart for about 2 months.Have only run flux-core but, I like it. The gun lead does seem a little stiff.I have a Tweco gun on my old Hobart Beta-Mig and it feels more flexible.I was looking at the HTP gun, too.If all the consumables fit stock and HTP gun, might be worth a try.I’ll be following this thread.Darryl

Reply:Boleshiit. Get a 15 foot HTP gun and have at it. Learn to correctly adjust your wire tension and pay attention to the whip and machine position.Put 20 feet of ground cable on the thing. Put a 2-3-400 amp ground clamp on that cable. The idiot manufacturers claim no because they " assume" you're an idiot.......and they're mostly correct in their assumptions. I've yet to encounter any machine that would not push 030 or 035 through a  15 foot whip.This includes the delusional bleating of " aluminum drives" are better than plastic.... I suppose thats why hammer manufacturers use plastic replaceable beater tips instead of recycled Chinese door knobs. Those boys at Lincoln need to switch to silver vinyl so the idiots think its non magnetic steel they can show off as " better" than the black "plastic" they make hammers and bumpers for cars out of............zzzzzzzzzzz
Reply:Sorry Bonzoo,It doesn’t always work that way.Your vehicle has tow limits from manufacturer for a reason.Yes, you can haul more, but for how long?Unfortunately, I think it’s an issue here, too.I bought the HTP gun with 12’ lead.Like other USAWeld orders- it was shipped quickly and correctly.I set my machine tension with the factory gun so I could grab the wire and stop it’s feed (smooth feed roll).I put on the HTP gun and pulled trigger to feed wire into gun.I could hear the motor slow as it pushed the wire through the gooseneck.I had to increase tension and use knurled feed roll.(0.035 wire)The HTP gun and lead are nice: small lip at bottom of trigger may help prevent accidental feeds when setting gun down. Lead is more flexible than stock Hobart one.It didn’t appear gooseneck was that much more than stock.Haven’t welded with it so may see about exchanging for 10’.I was so hoping this would work!If I have to move machine each time to keep lead string out straight, what’s the point? Reply:One other thing I will try to verify today, is the liner size. I did not specify and my invoice doesn’t say what liner is in the gun. Darryl
Reply:That gun comes with a .023-.030 liner. Too small for .035. You have to order the bigger liner separate.

I’m a dufus.At least on my smartphone, I find no mention of liner size for the 12’ w/4 pin connector lead.So, ordered/installed bigger liner.Ran non-scientific test:Set tension using stock, 10’ lead/gun set out straight and grooved drive roll. Set to slip when wire pinched between fingers.Then made lead in 16” dia coil (laying level w front of welder)- had to increase tension by a turn.Installed HTP lead (with proper liner

). I had to increase tension another turn to feed smoothly while lead laid out straight. Coiled in 16” loops- required 1 1/2 turns to feed smoothly.Tension knob reads about “1 1/2” on scale on knob.I like the gun. Gonna use it. Wouldn’t try anything longer.
