6.0 Chevy exhaust manifold bolts

Anyone know what size the exhaust manifold bolts are on the 6L Chevy? It the rear one on the driver's side. Reply:I'll check with #1 son in the morning. He has made a small part of a life removing, & replacing. Vortec, and 6.0 are frequent flyer with manifold bolts.An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:Well Oreilly's had the whole set so I bought them and it seems that it is broken off in the head. The bolt won't go in and neither will a small screwdriver, there is something in the hole and since I can't see in there I am guessing it is a broken piece of the bolt. How do you break a bolt in an aluminum head? No major work has ever been done on the van and ever since it was new I always noticed if you get on it hard when it is cold you could always hear a pft pft pft like an exhaust leak. I'll bet that bolt was broke off at the factory. Reply:This is very common on LS motors. MIG or TIG weld a nut to it to get it out. If it is below the head surface then build up a little bit and then weld a nut to the build up. Reply:There is no easy way. Mine was a rear bolt. Removing the doghouse in my van It was difficult, but possible to get to it. TIG is my process of choice. Being aluminum, you have an advantage, you can pump a lot of heat in without risk of melting aluminum. In some cases you have to remove the head. Your whole problem is about access, no big thing if you can get to it. Do you know a contortionist dwarf who likes to stand on his head while TIG welding?An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. Reply:I would just use the clamps in a situation like that, 10 minutes and you are done. Save the bolt removal for when it has to come out.

Thanks I didn't know about those, it looks like that will be a fairly easy repair on the van chassis, at least on the left rear. After some reading I didn't realize this commonly happens on the LS motors as mentioned by TJS. Apparently thermal expansion. I'd better check the remaining corners.

Reply:I have used a couple of the dorman kits that bolt to the back of the head and clamp the manifold down. They are easy and work wellMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
