I have these leather boots I love for working in the shop. The thing is they don't have a flap to keep hot bits from making you do your best impression of The Lords of the Dance.

For TIG I did not think I would need it but yesterday a piece of red hot wire rolled off the table and very close. So I would like to make some flaps and I wondered if I was the first guy trying to do this?Anyone?Thankswww.patricelemee.com
Reply:I've seen commercial leathers for that but not homemade. Back in the day we had to wear steel toe boots that had a hard plastic cover over the instep/metatarsal & they were dangerous, get hung on stairs, ladders, & couldn't kneel comfortably in them.IMPEACH BIDEN!NRA LIFE MEMBERUNITWELD 175 AMP 3 IN1 DCMIDSTATES 300 AMP AC MACHINEGOD HELP AMERICA!Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didnt pass it to our children in the bloodstream".RONALD REAGAN

Reply:to each their own but i gave up the safety boot thing thirty years ago. after a drilling hammer hit my toe where the steel cap wasn't and a piece of a white hot rivet i just burned off fell inside (not on the same day) my boot i took my chances wearing plain ankle high knapps.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Some of us slackers wear flip flops to fabricate in :PLincoln, ESAB, Thermal Dynamics, Victor, Miller, Dewalt, Makita, Kalamzoo. Hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting tools.
Reply:Thanks guys, that lace on thing might be something easy enough to make out of leather. No need for leather shoelaces since like I said this is just for a very unlikely event. At worst a new pair of shoelaces I can live with.

Reply:The tig rod you mean that you add to the puddle? I wouldn’t be worried about that if so. Not going to do much becuase it’s thin and most likely bounce off anyway

Reply:PatriceLI was gifted a pair of custom make Blacksmith Spats, unfortunately for me - they are too small -The Blacksmith was forced to retire from metal-workdue to a non-metal-working shoulder injury. Currently - my photographer is spear-fishing for SeaTurtles in the Grand Caymans . . .It may be a few days before I can post pics - if, they are a fit - they are yours for postage . . .Opus

Molded leather with cotton string tie down. Added a little something from Britannia's flag where my parents were born. I think they would have liked it. Plus looks a little like the wooden clogs my father wore in the shop and that I still do...except when welding.

Opus, I won't be needing to take you up on your offer after all but I do appreciate it just the same. Thanks.www.patricelemee.com

Reply:PatriceLNow I know why Sea Turtles are endangered - best soup ever . . .The top cuff measures 9 1/2" [24.13 cm] when open and flatinside of the velcro closure strips. The black strips are stays in the front and back so they don't rotate. The smith who had these made was only 5'8" [172.72 cm] tall, and wafer thin - so the cuffs are correspondingly small. If they are a fit, send a PM . . .
