I purchased (regrettably) a Titanium 45 plasma cutter about a year ago and used it 4 or 5 times for little projects until it broke. After going through the trouble shooting multiple times, messing around with settings and air pressures, calling customer support, changing out consumables, I can't get it to work. I called a couple local tool repair shops and they want nothing to do with it.The issue I am having is that I get the pilot arch for 3 to 4 seconds and then and then it shuts off. As I said I have tried any and everything I can think of as well as spent countless hours searching online for people with similar issues to no avail, all I find are great reviews for purchasing one. Being that there is no longer a warranty, and no tool repair shops want to look at it, I took it apart to see if I saw anything obvious that looked burnt up or broken inside of it and can't seem to find anything. Does anyone have so suggestions on what to look for or had similar issues? I will add some pictures I took after opening the case up.Thanks in advance,Brad

Reply:Had you spent twice as much you would have had a Hypertherm. Now you get to spend the second half of the money and you still have a harborfreight tool. Economics 101 lesson over. Go buy another one, swap parts then take it back as non working in 30 days. I think they call it their extended warranty program.
Reply:So, your advice is to steal one? Did you buy it with a credit card? You get an extra year's warranty with some cards.I guess this is part of the race to the bottom. Buy a better one, not Chinesium!Do not believe everything that you think.
Reply:Do you have sufficient air pressure to the machine? It sounds like it starts then fails.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com

and do you have a pressure gauge you can hook right at the feed in the back of the machine to make sure pressure is maintained while it is trying to cut??? Also one thing to check for is obstructions in the air feed system.... this can be tricky as there are lots of places where debris can get stuck!!! since you mentioned not using it much I will assume it sits unconnected for extended periods of time...???? bugs and insects just love these air line fittings to hide in

and they will mess up all kinds of things that require clean air

unfortunately they can be very hard to get back out of a system once they are pressurized into it

but I see plenty of PTC connections inside the machine... so not too hard to remove and check or reverse pressure them to clean em' out

Reply:Sorry about the pictures being sideways.

Reply:Sound like the torch is not sending or sensing the plate. SHow a pic of the torch with the cap and ring off. My HTP torch pins were worn out where the cap screws on there is a brass ring that makes contact with the 2 pins. Both on my pins were retracted and shot. I was strolling fhru a harbor freight one day and noticed that some of their plasma cutters have the same torch as my HPT micro cut 380. I get my consumables at harbor freight. I found a torch head on ebay for 30 buck. Cake to replace.www.tjsperformance.comDynasty 300 DXHTP 240HTP Microcut 380Hyperthem 85JD2 Hyd Bender and HF Hyd Ring Roller all in one =(Frankenbender)Bpt. Reply:Check for continuity of your work lead and the connections for it inside the machine. I know you have it connected but that doesn't necessarily mean there is a connection. Cutting a couple of seconds and then stopping can be no work lead connection.---Meltedmetal
Reply:I went and attached the lead, working from the circuit board to the internal connect then to the external socket where the lead wire plugs in to the lead clamp to the metal that the work lead was connected to and there was continuity the whole way.   After doing that I went to attempt to cut and instead of a 3-4 second arch, I got an immediate loud pop and burning smell. I believe that the plasma cutter is now officially a paperweight. It appears that numerous components have over heated and melted down. I am not sure what the cause was, I tried to turn the unit on again and have no fan and it starts to smell like burning with the switch on.

If there was a thread on someone debating purchasing ones of these I would give the same opinion that you have expressed.
Reply:How long have you had it?Does it have a warranty? Did you pay cash or credit card? When you buy something from a vender, you enter into a contract. The conditions are usually well understood by both parties. If you are outside the warranty, the conditions of the contract have been fulfilled. No matter what you think of Harbour Freight, buying another machine and swapping boards and taking back the remains of the dead one is fraud.I bought a Lincoln machine and it has a 3 year warranty. I have the option to buy a further 2 years from them, which I haven't decided upon yet. But if I don't, my contract is for 3 years. If the machine bakes one day past the warranty, I will have to pay (unless Lincoln lives up or down(!) to its reputation). Chinesium is clever but very cheap ****. They build them with the most bells and whistles then pare them to the bone, to make the most dough they can. Barely adequate condensers, crappy insulation, elusive or non-existent parts. All they have to do is make it through the (short) warranty. Not everyone can afford a new Miller but by gawd it's better to save up or just use a grinder.Do not believe everything that you think.

Reply:Looking them up on the internet.  They do get  good reviews.  And compared to some of the Chinese machinesthey are  not cheap either. So I can see  why You should be frustrated and disappointed   and expected  betterquality  and or  service. Unfortunately  It  now  looks like an  expensive  experience  and a warning for  everyone else

Reply:I paid $92 for my Plasma from amazon warehouse deals.. Rolling the dice was pretty easy.. Few years ago, I would not of even bothered with the cheap mosfet China units.. Both, Jim, and I rolled the dice on the little Herocut, and with some thought into consumables it punches way above it's weight.. I have a 60i, and a 35c Thermal with built in compressor, and find the Herocut my go to sheet metal unit.. The consumables last really well too.. If I still had my Hypertherm 45XP, and 65. I would still grab my herocut for most sheet metal cutting.. It's not even funny that the Little Herocut blows away the original 120 volt Esab unit it was sort of cloned from. I owned that one too.. I am thinking a 45 amp 240 volt PT-31 China made by Arc Sonic might be another sleeper.. Until the Herocut gives me issues, I am a huge fan.. Right now it's paid for itself in just having it around for this, and that.. Bonus from here on out..Primeweld would be a pretty safe unit to take a chance on, I just like the cheapest unit that works for me, and the Latest Arc Sonic machines are great little units (IMO)But still need setup to work correctly.Shoot,I could of hooked up my SL-40 torch to my 3 phase Thermal 60i, and cut the vent hole for my modded CNC table (Shortened it from 5X10 to 5X5.5 ft.)The little Herocut was just more handy, and nicer to use for that..
