What can you tell me about these machines? availability of parts, durability, etc. There is one for sales at a local auction this coming weekend and I was wondering what they are going for these days?I have not seen it in person yet, so I don't know a whole lot about it other than the auction company thinks it's a welder.thanks
Reply:It is a 40 amp air plasma from Hypertherm, last produced about 12 to 14 years ago. Most parts are available. They were made as single phase 230 volt units or 3 phase 480 volt units, so beware that you cannot operate on any input voltage like you can with the newer Hypertherm systems. The 600 was a very dependable plasma system. It is rated to pierce 3/8" steel, can edge start and cut through 3/4" or slightly more. Going price for a good working used Powermax600 is between about $600 and $800 generally. Mechanized cut chart for 600 to show relative speeds, thicknesses: Jim Colt Hypertherm
