Looking to join a Union in New Jersey/New York city area so I can move back home.

Hello everyone! My name's Julian. I live in Florida currently, but my hometown is in Northern New Jersey and I'm looking to move back. I'm looking for any solid job opportunities in welding. I'm a certified structural plate welder, I also have basic knowledge and skills in TIG and MIG welding. I'm open to learning and earning other certifications as well. I'm here asking for help to any and all with the possible connections to get me a job so i can go back home. Thanks for any and all assistance and/or advice given.
Reply:Have you looked up any of the building trade locals where you want to go? That's where I'd start. Give 'em a ring and go from there.

Reply:Most unions have apprenticeship programs if you can get in to one .Do you have any idea what you want to do(iron worker,pipe welder ,boiler maker, doc builder I am sure there are more)

Reply:a friend of mine's son is an apprentice ironworker. he's working on the bayonne bridge now and doing great. next time the union advertises that their accepting applications make it your business to be there.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:I wish you the best of luck, but I wouldn't hold my breath on joining the Union up here.Last I heard the Unions pretty much stopped coming out to the tech schools looking for new apprentices. They used to fight to take in the best students, but now they aren't really taking in any new guys unless you know someone in the union.Best bet would be to join in an area where they aren't as flooded with guys and later transfer up to the NJ/NY area..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
