Can a PowCon 300sm Tig weld if it has a plugged in pedal?

I'm looking at a PowCon 300sm to buy and noticed it has a PowCon pedal plugged into a factory port. I know the "sm" stands for Stick and Mig but can you Tig weld SS and mild steel with this machine? I know it can't Tig aluminum without a HF box.thanks in advance for any replies!Mike
Reply:There's no gas control solenoid on those, so you'd have to run a torch valve, also no cap discharge start so you'd have to scratch start. But the pedal should control your current. Have to check the pinout and machine pin out, but I'm about 95% sure

Reply:They are great power sources that take a beating. I shoot for them on ebay for 300-350 bucks. Arcon offers tons of support for them as well. I've worked with their technicians on Sundays before. Reply:They have rave reviews but I've never heard of them before. Been working around metal fab for 30 years and don't remember seeing any lol. We had a couple xmt's in a tool shop I managed and they were really handy machines. They'd Tig like a dream.Do you know if you can plug and play a spool gun on the 300sm?thanks,Mike

Reply:Not sure about that. I don't know much about spool guns. Reply:You generally can't TIG aluminum with a DC welder. You need AC and HF continuous.  (For the average welder weldor)  Before some wise guy gets on here. Reply:Scratch start works fine on SS and carbon steel. Never had a lift start until I bought my XMT.  As far as using a pedal I have never used one. I don't see a need for one welding DC tig.
