I have a freind that has property with some old natural gas wells on it. The wells all stopped producing roughly 30 years ago. There is some sort of pumping station (two compressors, piping and some insulated equipment that supposedly removed nitrogen from the gas before it was pumped into the utility pipeline). I think the equipment is old enough that it does not have any resale value other than scrap metal. He would like to remove all this old equipment simply because it's now just an eyesore. What precautions must be taken to scrap out/dismantle this? All this equipment does belong to him and not the utility.Zoom4
Reply:I think you'd have to contact the local authority on hazardous waste. Don't know if remnants of sour gas (Hydrogen Sulfide) could be present when everything is taken apart. Proceed with caution.
Reply:You never know. There may be someone begging for some of the parts. Might be old enough to have antique value. Get manufacturer and model numbers and post on ebay.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR"

Reply:By all means, find out what equipment it is. Could be worth something!America Needs AMERICA'S Oil!!!"Global warming is the greatest scam in history ...There is no run away climate change. Reply:Id be interested in seeing a picture. Things you will need to be cautious of; pressure, should be minimal, but could easily be higher pressure due to backfeed. Electricity, could have either D/C from anodes, or A/C from a variety of sources, or D/c with A/c. Use a jumper cable from one one to the other when you first break it apart. Nothing would suck worse than letting methane escape and providing it a spark due to current on the pipes and right in front of your face. Weight, some of those components can be surprisingly heavy. Oil, could be gobs or could be minimal, if you spill it in Cali you will probably wish you hadnt.
