http://www.theventuragroup.com/pics/welds/These are the welds holding the swingarm on my motorcycle together, it's an aluminum extrusion welded to a cast or machined end.  From the top down to the bottom on pic 103 I see (or believe I see) correct weld, undercut, high spot, a bit more undercut, another high spot followed by good weld, another high spot leading to a crater followed by some uneven beads, with just a bit of spatter here and there.  What say you?  BTW, it's a 2002 Yamaha FZ1.  The rest of the welds on the swingarm are comparable, with what look like a few cold laps thrown in for good measure.whodatIs it really worth getting that worked up over?
Reply:These welds don't have to be 100 percent due to the design and location.  I suspect that the casting/forging fits inside the tube with a tight fit.   The weld is a simple fillet on a lap joint.  It is an ideal application for production.  The only time that the weld might be loaded is under extreme braking.  Since the rear wheel can only pull a limited amount on the end of the swing arm before it slips on the pavement the loads are relatively small.
